Dr. Mario Melgar Becomes Of Counsel to Cacheaux, Cavazos & Newton, L.L.P.

(“CCN”) is pleased to announce that Dr. Mario Melgar has become Of Counsel to the firm, working out of CCN’s San Antonio and Mexico City offices. Dr. Melgar is a licensed Mexican attorney who brings more than 30 years of legal and public policy experience to his new position, having most recently served as Rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) campus in San Antonio.  He expects to focus his practice on international law and relations, including providing legislative counsel to clients doing business in Mexico.

A native of Mexico City, Dr. Melgar has lived and worked in Mexico and the U.S., where he has held a number of high level administrative posts.  He previously served on the Mexican Federal Judicial Council (Consejero de la Judicatura Federal) and was appointed by Mexico’s President to Mexico's Ministry of Health. Along with his extensive work at the UNAM in both Mexico and San Antonio, Dr. Melgar has published seven books and written more than 100 articles on topics such as public administration, education and law.  He currently is a weekly columnist for the Mexican daily newspaper, Excelsior.
