On September 11, 2025, the Mexican government published in the Official Journal of the Federation (“DOF”)  a Decree amending Article 2 of the prior Decree published in the DOF on November 26, 2021 and cancelling the prior Decree published in the DOFon August 3, 2022. Such prior decrees established the temporary requirement of a visa in ordinary passports for nationals of the Federative Republic of Brazil, under the immigration status of visitor without permission to engage in remunerated activities.

To facilitate the movement of people between Mexico and Brazil, as of February 5, 2026, Brazilian nationals intending to enter Mexican territory exclusively by air, and under the immigration status of visitor without permission to engage in remunerated activities, will have the option to apply for an electronic visa valid for up to 180 calendar days, in accordance with Procedure 3 of the Sixteenth Guideline, Chapter XIII of the General Guidelines for the Issuance of Visas issued by the Mexican Departments of Interior and Foreign Affairs, published in the DOFon July 25, 2025 (the guidelines may be found at the following link: DOF).

To obtain the electronic visa, applicants must access the official website of the Mexican Department of Foreign Affairs: https://www.inm.gob.mx/sae/publico/solicitud.html, and must also meet all the requirements established in the general guidelines mentioned above.

The visa fee must be paid online. If approved, the applicant must either print the visa or download it to an electronic device to present to airline personnel and Mexican immigration authorities at the immigration inspection point upon arrival in Mexican territory. This visa will allow a single entry into Mexico.

If, for any reason, the electronic visa is not approved, the applicant may request a stamped visa at the Mexican Consulate nearest to their place of residence in Brazil. If the application is approved and all requirements are met, the visa will be attached to the applicant’s passport.
